How long will the session last?
A full-body massage session lasts approximately fifty-five minutes (this includes the time for you to dress and undress). Many people prefer an 80 minute session for optimal relaxation.
How much should I tip?
Many clients are unsure if and/or how much they should tip their massage therapist. We recommend you think of your massage therapist as you would a waiter in a restaurant. They love what they do and your tip should reflect your appreciation for their service. Tipping percentages should be based on the full price of a regular massage. Remember, our therapists have a very physical job.
How often should I receive a massage?
The answer to this question depends on your reasons for receiving a massage. For those who use massage as preventative care or to manage daily stress, one massage a month is common. Weekly sessions may be necessary if you are receiving massage for injury relief or to relieve chronic tightness that is interfering with your daily life. If this is the case, weekly sessions are essential in order to build on each week's improvements in healing until the desired results have been achieved. For most people, the frequency of massage visits depends on how well it fits into a budget. For this reason, we have several membership options to make it easy for you to afford the benefits of massage on a regular basis.
Must I be completely undressed?
You should undress to your desired level of comfort. About half of our clients prefer to be completely undressed, while the other half prefer to keep their undergarments on. Either way, you are the client and your comfort comes first. Our therapists are trained to work with you in all situations.
Should I be concerned about the gender of my therapist?
In general, nothing about a therapist's gender will tell you about the style or quality of massage they give. Some people are more comfortable receiving a massage from a person of the same gender, some from a person of the opposite gender. While no professional wants their services refused based upon their gender, they also realize that if you're nervous about who is giving you the massage, then you won't be able to relax and enjoy your massage. Please feel free to request whichever gender you prefer for your massage.
What does a massage therapist’s license or certification mean?
A license means that a massage therapist has met the requirements and paid the fee to legally practice massage in your city, county and/or state. To obtain a license, a massage therapist will usually have to complete a minimum number of training hours at an accredited or accepted school or training center. Click here to learn more from ABMP.
What if I am embarrassed about my body?
Massage therapists are professionals and have experience working with all shapes and sizes, from young to old. The focus is to provide therapeutic relief, not judge your physique.
What parts of my body will be massaged?
You and the massage therapist will discuss the desired outcome of your session. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full body session will include work on your back, abdomen, gluts, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, and shoulders. You will not be touched on or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female).
What should I do during my massage?
Make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people close their eyes and completely relax. Feel free to let your massage therapist know if you would like deeper or lighter pressure. You will feel the maximum benefit if you remain quiet during your massage.
What should I expect during my first visit to Elements?
During Your Massage
From the lobby, your therapist will escort you to your own private therapeutic massage room. Since most of our studios have fewer than 8 rooms, it's a short and quiet walk. All of our massage rooms have dim lighting and soft soothing music playing in the background, which helps you to relax. Your therapist will then leave you to undress to your desired level of comfort and relax onto the massage table. There will be fresh blankets and sheets provided on the table. You will remain properly draped during the entire session to keep you warm and comfortable. Often, a light lotion or oil will be applied to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin.
When Your Massage is Complete When your massage is complete, your therapist will leave the room and allow you some time to get dressed. Your therapist will then provide you with water and make a professional recommendation for your return visit.
Post-Massage
After your massage, you will feel relaxed and you may feel relief from your former long-term aches and pains. For the first 24 hours after a deep tissue massage, you may feel a little sore or achy - this is a normal response due to toxins being released from your soft tissue. We recommend that you drink plenty of water following any massage. After that time, you will feel increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity.
What will the massage feel like?
Your massage should feel relaxing if you chose a Swedish Massage or stress reducing if you chose a Deep Tissue Massage. Massage is performed with either oil or lotion to reduce friction on your skin.
When should I get a massage?
Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to wait until you are stressed or injured to get a massage. Any time is a good time for a massage. Massage is like a health-supplement or preventative care for a person's body and mind. A regular massage is a great way to cope with physical or emotional stress and to keep it from causing discomfort or harm to your body.
Where will my massage session take place?
Your massage session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music will be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table specially designed for your comfort.
Who will perform the massage or bodywork?
You can be sure your session will be conducted by a professional therapist who has received proper training and certifications. The level of training and certification depends on the local requirements.
Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.
Will the therapist be present when I disrobe?
The massage therapist will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table and cover yourself with a clean sheet and blanket.
